I was lucky enough to meet this incredibly talented actress when she was starring in 99 Heyworth Street in Liverpool. I was there to interview someone else but that was cancelled and Nickey was kind enough to step in. This fantastic lady is Derek Darby's brother and they used to have their own band. This article was written some years ago. If I find her website I will provide a link to it.
Publicity Piece on Nickey Darby
Take one tall, attractive entertainer with a friendly, bubbly personality; add a halo of long blonde hair and top it all off with the dulcet tones of an accomplished singer - and what have you got?
Liverpool's latest singing sensation NICKEY DARBY of course!
Fans of both stage and screen have already noticed this talented young woman who has been in show business for most of her life.
At the tender age of 23, NICKEY DARBY is already proving to be an 'in' choice for both record and television producers alike, having appeared in numerous television and stage shows, including:
· Brookside
· Hollyoaks
· Coronation Street
· Granada Reports (Something for the Weekend) - twice
· 99 Hayworth Street (in which she was the envy of soap fans everywhere, starring opposite teenage heartthrob Richard Norton from Home and Away and Neighbours!)
The list is endless!
NICKEY's talents are not solely restricted to acting however. She is multi-talented, having the ability to combine her acting skills with her singing and choreography. In fact, one of her most recent jobs was appearing in the Duncan Norvelle show in Blackpool (which she both choreographed and performed in).
However, NICKEY DARBY is no stranger to singing and dancing.
Together with her brother Derek, she recently toured with Eurovision Song Contest Winners Brotherhood of Man and she constantly astounded the audience with her singing ability.
They proved extremely popular and, by the end of the tour the pair were being hounded for autographs as much as the band themselves!
NICKEY has now moved out on her own and is proving ever more popular with her fans (who range from 7 to 70!)
Now she is about to rock the music world with an explosion measuring at least 10 on the Richter Scale, with her soon to be released debut album which is sure to delight her army of fans and gain her many more in the process. The album is a compilation of original songs which shows off her versatility to the best advantage.
As if all this wasn't enough, NICKEY is still holding one card very close to her chest, which I can now exclusively reveal. She is a superb roller skater, as her most recent role proves.
She is currently appearing in pantomime at Rhyll Pavilion as Peter Pan's fairy friend Tinkerbell. This is a fantastic opportunity as it enables her to display all of her best attributes at once. She gets to act, sing, dance - and roller skate of course!
NICKEY DARBY has something that makes her stand out from the crowd - STAGE PRESENCE. As soon as she steps out on the stage all eyes are riveted on her. I have seen the effect she has on the audiences for myself on a number of occasions - in fact, many people have been forced to return to the theatre several times in order to see the whole show!
I am in the privileged position of having had a sneak preview of NICKEY's album and I have to say that it's beautiful. One song that is under consideration is a lovely ballad called Fallen For You, which she wrote herself. Oddly enough, the first time I heard that song I was convinced it was Celene Dion and I kept waiting for Nickey's song to come on!
Sadly, it is very unlikely that this particular song will ever be released as a single because she doesn't like it - but I believe it could be a number one hit!
However, if the rest of the music that she played me is anything to go by, NICKEY DARBY is about to set the world alight.
I predict that it won't be very long before she will scale the dizzy heights of stardom.
Personally I'm looking forward to seeing her receive her Brit Award!
