Adult Short Stories
OK, looking at this website I've realised something rather important is missing - examples of my writing! As a result I have decided to include a short story a week.
I write both for children and adults so I will include some of both.
To give you a bit of background to the first story, Hope, I was approached to write a story to help Japan after their terrible Tsunami. It had to relate to the Tsunami, Japan and Hope. I agreed - but it was nothing if not a rush job. For various reasons I failed to write a number of stories I started - mainly because I couldn't get the feeling right. Then I decided to do what I always do when faced with an urgent deadline and no inspiration - I freewrote.
Closing my eyes I emptied my head and wrote solidly for two hours. The result was the story you see on the next page. I have changed minor things but it's essentially the same story I wrote all those months ago.
Let me know what you think! I will, if there is enough demand, include a section on writing with great tips, my favourite exercises and perhaps even the odd competition. But to do that I need to know that enough people are interested so please give me feedback.
I am also in the process of producing a short video and audio so you can listen to the stories as well!
There are currently very few opportunities for freelance fiction writers and we need to show the magazines that there is a demand for them. Let's use People Power to get them to do a u-turn. Most magazines have dropped fiction and those that do accept it are now only accepting previously successful authors. It is an increasingly difficult field to break into. We need to fight to keep our favourite section of the magazine - even Take A Break (my personal favourite) has dropped fiction - that's what attracted me to the magazine in the first place.
The children's stories will be on a separate page and will be updated on a different day - perhaps Friday for Adult and Monday for Children. I'll let you know if that changes.
I will be updating my blog shortly with some excellent news so stay tuned. Also, I will be launching the new Lizzy James website as soon as time permits. In the meantime, click on the link to find Hope.
Until next time!
