This had to be my most bizarre interview ever. I got the opportunity when I was working in a newspaper office and volunteered my services before I knew what I was doing. I arrived with only pen and paper (not knowing I could record a telephone interview) and asked "Bjorn" if he wanted to be interviewed as though he was from Abba. He said yes and what followed was one of the most hilarious interviews of my life - several times I burst out laughing but I had to be as professional as I could. I was given 24 hours to turn the whole thing round to a publishable article (this was my first ever article, as well). I was terrified and it took several drafts but eventually I got it right. This article was published with just ONE WORD changed which is an achievement I'm very proud of.
Bjorn Again
What do the 70's mean to you?
If I say Glam Rock, flared trousers, platform shoes and blue eyeshadow - yes, I'm talking about ABBA.
Even though the band split up at the end of the 80's their music has never died.
Any number of tribute bands have emerged and one of the best, "Bjorn Again" are about to hit our town for one night only, to take us on a nostalgic trip down Memory Lane.
I was lucky enough to have a quick chat with "Bjorn" - and discovered he was quite a mixed up individual!
When I asked how he discovered he wanted to go into show business, he explained that his memories of this period are very hazy.
"We were in a helicopter crash - we collided with a giant platform shoe from outer space. When we woke up we were singing all these beautiful songs."
Sadly the crash has wiped out most of his memory - indeed, he has little recollection of his life prior to it.
The first person he saw when he woke up was his beloved wife Agnetha, who he now refers to as his most treasured possession. "Actually that's politically incorrect - these days she's my partner!"
He has led a very unlucky life. Not only did he crash his helicopter but his Volvo was also a write off. "I'm not very superstitious but, after I walked away from the Volvo crash unhurt, I take its steering wheel with me wherever I go!"
When he's not on stage he can often be found tinkering with the Volvo, Saab and riding on his Harley Davidson. "Sometimes I go up to 15 mph" he says proudly.
It is a little known fact that the band have a hideaway in Skegness where they like to spend Christmas. Bjorn says his idea of the perfect Christmas Day is to walk along the beach with Benny, go back and have Roast Herring and potatoes for Christmas dinner.
To say the least he is eccentric. His most disgusting habit (and don't try this at home, kids) is sniffing milk before he goes on stage! He says it gives him a real high!
"I don't get nervous before I go on stage.
"Everyone who comes to see our show has a good time. It's great when people come up after the show to say they enjoyed it.
"But it is annoying when people confuse us with ABBA! We have even been asked what it was like to appear in the Eurovision Song Contest, but that wasn't us."
Bjorn Again are set to embark on a world tour next month which takes in the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. So dust off those platform shoes, don your favourite flared trousers and put on that famous blue eyeshadow, then take yourselves off for an unforgettable night.
They are here for one night only. Tickets start from £9.
